Open i
Open i started making beats back in 1994 on old Casio sampling keyboards and went simply by the name James. In 1998 he ate a steady diet of Ramen noodles to save up for a MPC 2000 sampling drum machine. After a toxic intake of sodium the MPC was purchased followed by a Technics 1200. The MPC opened up a whole new realm of sampling and spawned the growth of the artist named open i. Soon after, a trip to Chicago to visit a fellow friend introduced open i to a small home grown hip-hop label called Galapagos4. Open i worked with upcoming artist Offwhyte and provided many tracks for Offwhytes first three albums. With the rise of computer technology open i felt a strong pull to focus on beat making with the computer and lost touch with the beauty of the MPC.
In 2002 open i was introduced to a tracker application called Renoise and has been addicted ever since. Now in 2009 open i is a family man who's beats have matured and hopes for a full length instrumental album seem to be six months of Ramen Pride away...
