Qwel - If It Ain't Been In a Pawnshop, Then It Can't Play The Blues
September 4, 2001 by
A prolific MC that has the sheer talent to combine innovation, philosophy, and that necessary bit of arrogance? Hip hop has never seen the likes of Qwel, and it will not be the same hereafter. Add the music of Meaty Ogre and the chaos of DJ White Lightning, and you have a truly groundbreaking album. As a member of Typical Cats, Qwel was able to introduce to the world his amazing skill, and with this solo release on Galapagos4, his newborn legacy continues. If It Ain't Been In a Pawnshop, Then It Can't Play The Blues is a window into Qwel's soul, and if you're not careful the glass may shatter.

AS THE WORLD TURNS
July 26, 2001 by Jeff
Whats up everyone?!? Damn this new site is dope! Much props to Josh Grotto, Collin Olan, Offwhyte, Justus Roe, Mike Shea, Josh Katz, and everyone else who contributed to the recreation, restructure, and relaunch of galapagos4.com!
So besides the obvious, there are many other new happenings on and around the island of Galapagos4. To start, be sure to check for us at our booth at Scribble Jam 2001. Come holler at Jeff, Josh, Offwheezy, GB, Qwel, and any other island inhabitants you may wish to feed, scream at, pet, clone, or shoot for sport. We are not responsible for any harm incurred or injuries received by contact with the animals.
Now on to the new music….
Ready to hit the streets August 7, 2001 is the long-awaited stacked full-length conceptual album from G4s own resident love/hate relationship with the world, DJ White Lightning Exposes White On White Crime.. This scorching hot record is something which is very rare in the world of hip-hop: a concept record featuring a wide spectrum of artists which manages to be cohesive, innovative, and make a poignant statement about yesterdays, todays, and tomorrows society. The offending characters range from Ted Turner/Jesus to a shady art dealer looking to profit from and corrupt young talent to a middle-aged family man painfully staining his deck and reminiscing of his wilder days. The amazing production is all handled by White Light, of course, but the crimes of the "criminals" are confessed by a host of your favorite G4 & Chicago personalities, plus a few surprises. The MCs include Qwel, Serf 400, Offwhyte, Hymnself, Pugslee Atomz, Murs, Unkle Butta, Denizen Kane, Anacron, Kofi, Aristithis, Your Mom, and more. Also be ready for extra counts of theft charged to White Lightnings various other sonic endeavors… CD hits first and full 2xLP shortly after.
Near completion in the studio is the much-anticipated solo debut from Qwel of Typical Cats, titled If It Aint Been In A Pawn Shop, It Cant Play The Blues. Gritty Chicago hip-hop has never sounded doper. Qwel snaps off from deep down and puts thought and soul at the forefront of his rhymes. And of course, there are some words for the battle cats as well. Behind the beats and the boards are Meaty Ogre and DJ White Lightning, with one song backed by White Lights disco band, Royce. This album was created through many hard nights of sweat, basketball, and Old Steelo and will speak for itself as a testament to Qwels amazing skills as an MC and songwriter. He covers topics most rappers are afraid of and thoroughly rips the mic on every possible occasion. Nothing more can be said until its heard.
Also coming soon is the full-length solo CD from Himself, Providence Knows No Favorites. As one-third of The Netherworlds, Hymn got a chance to show his skills, but his real talent shines brighter on his own material. Highly personal and real-to-the-core, this album is a journey through Hymnselfs life and soul. Production is provided mostly by Anacron, with Aloe, Justin Tewn, and DJ White Lightning each dropping one track, and DJ Daze cutting up the Techs. Check for it in early fall 2001.
Watch out now! Offwhyte is back in the studio in the early stages of recording his follow up to 2000s masterpiece Squints by Offwhyte. There are currently a handful of tracks complete and they are ridiculously dope. Wheezy is set to blow heads once again. Early 2002….
Whew! Serious business, folks… G4s next few months are gonna be hotter than Chi-town sand in July. Keep checking the site for news, interviews, reviews, and that good ol hip-hop schmooze you gots ta love… peace

DJ White Lightning Exposes White On White Crime CD
July 17, 2001 by Jeff
Yes its true, white on white crime does exist and it is now being exposed by
me,QWEL,SERF400,ANACRON,DENIZEN,CAPITOL A,UNKLEBUTTA,KOFI,MURS,DJ DAZE, ARISTITHIS,OFFWHYTE,HYMSELF,PUGSLEE,CHATBIZ,JASON,ANDRE and YOURMOM. In an incredible turn of events three days after hitting the streets white on white has now shot to number two on the most requested for B96 and WGCI, bridging Chicago audiences into one unified hip hop force, it has also miraculously managed to clean and purify Chicagos lake front waters as well as many of the surrounding great lakes and Midcoast water ways. Only God knows what environmental improvements this album will make to the United States west and east coast, and the world for that matter, when the public catches hold of this powerful album. I highly recommend that this album be copped as soon as possible, it will change your life, for the better.
