NEW QWEL - THE NEW WINE - DROPS JUNE 10th... TOUR STARTS JUNE 6TH
May 19, 2008 by Jeff
QWEL & KIP KILLAGAIN "THE NEW WINE"
JUNE 10th 2008
Qwel returns to the forefront with "The New Wine", the 3rd in the series that started with autumns "The Harvest" produced by Maker & winters "Freezerburner" produced by Meaty Ogre. This time Qwel has tapped the talents of Kip Killagain, who has fostered renown in the underground music scene as an artist and more importantly a jungle/hip-hop producer. The genesis of this collaborative effort was sparked by the idea that the avant-garde use of live musicianship in hip-hop production could be done, and is needed to fill that void in the underground hip-hop community.
The New Wine is an expose of contrasts. The third horseman in Revelation is called forth - the black horse. His rider wields a balance proclaiming loudly 'A week's wage for a loaf of bread, a week's wage for a serving of grains, but don't harm the wine or oil'. Half the world slaves away to starve while the other wages war for its thirst for oil and wine. Man's wine has gone spoiled.
But just as the gloom of spring rain clears to a better day, so is the promise of the new wine. Qwel's unique and cynical outlook into our modern Babylon provides for an amazing range of sounds and topics, while contrarily giving way to hope in this plastic culture of Americanized Christianity and pop singers.
The sound of the new wine is unlike any of Qwel's previous records. Beautiful soundscapes of live violin often give way to thunderous baselines and soothing harmonies, further proclaiming 'Spring time is upon us. Drink the New Wine.'

NEW WHEEZY! Mainstay drops 11/13
October 19, 2007 by Jefe
Offwhyte "Mainstay"
CD release November 13, 2007
On his third studio album, Offwhyte offers a soundscape filled with charismatic philosophies and cogent imagery. "Mainstay" provides a magnificent listening experience for the vibe-driven style enthusiast and lyrical junkie alike. Boasting a beautifully eclectic range of songs and sounds, the album is a breath of fresh air in this era of identity crisis and unwarranted braggadocio.
Since its inception in 1999, Offwhyte has been a mainstay of the Galapagos4 empire. A co-founder of the label, Offwhyte set things in motion with Galapagos4's first full-length release, "Squints by Offwhyte". Since then, he has played a major part in the label's operations - both behind the scenes and behind the mic, releasing "The Fifth Sun" LP in 2002 and the controversial "Bow To The Sceptor" EP in 2004.
Throughout it all, Offwhyte has been a mainstay of underground originality and sly wordplay. With this new release he personifies this notion. The artist has tapped into a new grittier sound with tracks like "GWARN!" and "Whimsical", while never compromising his mellower soul ballads like "The Metropolitan People". The album also packs plenty of surprises, including a few tracks with subtle reggae influences, and a storytelling track about his grandfather, "Wise Conscience".
A highly-anticipated album, "Mainstay" finally emerges on November 13, 2007. With 15 tracks and almost an hour of music, the project flaunts a fluidity that transforms a collection of great songs into a monumental album.

MESTIZO - DREAM STATE - DROPS SEPT 18...
September 2, 2007 by El Jefe
Mestizo & Julian Code... the new album drops September 18... featuring Murs, Qwel, Joe Dub, 2Mex & Isiah...
Mestizo "Dream State"
Release date: September 18, 2007
After a 2 year hiatus, a core member of Galapagos4's West Coast operation, MESTIZO, is back with his official homecoming album. "Dream State" is MESTIZO's interpretation of his native land of California, which is a dream world in itself, filled with eccentric beings entranced in a dream state.
This album is entirely produced by the new super duo Julian Code, made up of Sean Julian (best known for the highly successful Psych Rock LP "Trap Door" on Groove Merchant Records) and DJ Morse Code, the San Francisco native better known for his club monster DJ status as part of the Super Friends crew. DJ Morse Code has also been caught DJing side by side with DJ AM, Steve Aoki, A-TRAK and The RUB DJ's to name a few, but here he is letting the world in on his gritty 12-bit SP-1200 production style.
MESTIZO has gained tremendous respect from his peers and elders alike as a passionate writer, amazing performer, and stern leader of the next generation of artist. Lyrically, MESTIZO teamed up with JOE DUBBS, ISAIAH, QWEL, 2MEX AND MURS and although, DREAM STATE is an album that needed no features, each individual that contributed to the album gladly added to its magnificence. Together they have created classic duets in honor of the golden state sound. MESTIZO embodies the true sound and style of a California heavy weight and is sure be a mogul to many and this album the future blueprint of how the West Coast Rocks.

Galapagos4 announces release of new Robust album!
Robust - El Foto Grande
dropping July 24th, 2007
The Big Picture. Get it? Its a concept easy enough for anyone to understand, but most never stop to think about it. Its that simple yet all-encompassing feeling you get when you finally figure it all out. Its putting in that time and work to get where you need to be. Its showing love and respect in order to get love and respect. El Foto Grande.
Robust has captured that snapshot clear as day in this collaboration with one of the hottest producers on the LA scene, Mike Gao, who co-produced the album alongside newcomer Nick Sena. Its the official sophomore solo release from Robust, whose 2004 debut album "Potholes In Our Molecules" (Galapagos4) raised eyebrows worldwide with its hard-hitting eclectic beats and intense rhymes. This record finds Robust more mature and seeing straight-forward, speaking to the masses that are eager to listen. The beats provide a diverse backdrop for Robust to focus his animated rhymes on, and the team delivers with deliberate clarity.
