Galapagos4 2009! This compilation was put together for the Galapagos4 10th Anniversary Festival in Chicago in June 2009. It features 15 all new tracks from G4 artists & beyond, including many tracks never to be released again. It also features previews of upcoming albums by many of the artists. Amoung the exclusive tracks included are Robust’s "G4 Anthem Remix", a new track by Qwel & Maker "Welcome To Chicago" (a non-album teaser for their upcoming "So Be It" LP dropping in August 2009), a live beatbox/freestyle session and a live version of "Any Day" by Typical Cats from Reggie’s in Chicago 2009.
"The year 1999 was a big one for Illinois: Dennis Hastert was named Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, 19 inches of snow blanketed Chicago in one of the biggest storms in recent history, and the Galapagos4 label was born.
If you’re not too familiar with that last event, well, as the kids say, you’ve been sleepin’. G4 has been responsible for a long list of seminal Chicago hip-hop releases over the years, from the likes of Typical Cats, Maker and Qwel. Founder Jeff Kuglich moved out to northern California a few years back (he’s back now), but the label’s Windy City presence and style remained strong, which is why its 10th anniversary party will be held here."
